The Art & Science of Candle Making
Join Leah of Lethal Lites Candles for a hands-on candle-making experience. With years of experience crafting beautiful soy candles, Leah will guide you step-by-step through the art of candle making and decoration. You’ll learn how to:
- Understand wax characteristics and select the correct wick based on wax type and vessel size
- Properly prepare your vessel and set your wick for a clean, even burn
- Work with fragrance oils, understand fragrance loads, or create a beautiful unscented candle
- Add colour and optional shimmery mica for a personalized touch
- Safely melt and pour your candle wax
Whether you’re brand new or looking to refine your skills, you’ll leave feeling confident and inspired to create your own stunning candles.
What to Bring
Please bring TWO of your own vintage or distinctive vessels (up to 16 oz each) to pour your candles into. Beautiful options include heirloom teacups, vintage art glass, delicate Japanese teacups, or any unique piece you feel drawn to. Choosing vessels with history or character makes the finished candle even more meaningful.
If you’re unsure whether a piece is suitable, please reach out in advance — thoughtful guidance is always part of the experience.
A curated selection of vessels will also be available for purchase at the workshop for a small additional fee.
What You’ll Learn
Beyond creating your candles, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the craft itself. Leah will guide you through common troubleshooting techniques, including how to identify and correct issues related to wax temperature, wick sizing, and surface finish — knowledge that ensures both beauty and performance in your finished piece.
Detailed course notes and thoughtfully prepared FAQs are available by email upon request.
Investment & Experience
$80 per person. Workshops are approximately 2.5 hours, including up to 30 minutes of curing time. The pace of the experience may vary slightly depending on group size, allowing for a relaxed and attentive atmosphere.
The Beauty of a Meaningful Vessel
You’re encouraged to bring your own teacup to use during the workshop. Creating a candle in a piece that already holds meaning — whether it belonged to your grandmother, was found on a special trip, or has been tucked away in a cupboard — makes the experience even more memorable. It becomes more than a candle; it becomes a story with a glow.
When I meet people at markets, they often tell me they have boxes of beautiful teacups sitting at home. I always suggest that if you’re hosting a private workshop, consider gifting one of your own teacups to each guest to fill. It’s such a special way to share pieces you love. Instead of being hard to part with or eventually ending up on a dusty thrift store shelf, your teacups get a new life — going home with someone you know and care about, carrying both light and memory with them.

Decorate Your Own Candle Parties How They Work...
For the Decorate Your Own Candle parties, Leah would bring a variety of pre-made soy wax candles, handmade wax mould embeds and pressed flowers.
Premade soy mould embeds include succulents, cacti, and themed designs (such as Easter, Birthday, and Christmas).
- mermaid tails & under the sea
- flowers
- fairies & unicorns
- space - robots, spaceships
- celestial
- horoscopes, birthday, taro
- mix of everything
- cats & dog-themed
and more...
After selecting their candles, each participant will arrange their design on the provided sheet or candle. This helps determine the number and types of moulds needed. Next, we heat the top layer of wax and attach the moulds. The exact process can be applied when using pressed flowers.
Kids' parties are available with customizable packages based on the number of guests. For example, the $250 package includes premade soy candles for 10 kids. Plus, $50 per tray of pre-made wax embeds in a chosen theme—such as Under the Sea, Space, or Birthday Fun.
Pricing varies based on the number of guests, candle size, and additional activities.
One exciting activity we offer is pouring and demolding wax embeds. Kids will learn to create wax embeds using silicone moulds in this beginner-friendly workshop. We provide a variety of moulds and coloured soy wax for them to explore. They carefully pour the wax into the moulds, ensuring each cavity is filled to the top without overflowing.
This hands-on experience helps kids appreciate the effort and precision required to make beautiful wax decorations. Demolding delicate wax projects can be tricky, as patience is key. Waiting for the wax to fully cool before removing it is crucial to avoid breakage. We also share expert tips and techniques to ensure successful demolding while teaching the importance of patience in the process.

Real Feather & Tinsel Hair Extensions
Attaching Feathers with Beads - Process
We will part your hair as you usually do and select a small section that is thin enough to fit through the silicone bead. The section will be taken from beneath the top layer of hair, ensuring that the bead and the tip of the feather remain hidden.
For a subtle, more sophisticated look, choose a section near the bottom, back, or side of your head. This placement allows the feather to peek out when you move but can be easily tucked away for formal occasions.
To apply the feather, we’ll slide the bead onto a hook, pull the selected hair through, and position the bead about ½ inch from the scalp. Then, we’ll insert the feather into the bead and securely clamp it in place. Once done, you can let your hair fall naturally and style it as usual.
Removing the feather is simple—use pliers to crimp the bead in the opposite direction, allowing it to open and slide out easily.
Cost 3 feathers for $20
Hair Tinsel 10 for $20

Just like our candles, our clients light up the room! Read how their experiences with our one-of-a-kind creations have sparked joy, connection, and cherished memories.
“Our experience with Leah and the Lethal Lites Candle making workshop she hosted at our daughter’s birthday party was fantastic.
The event went very well and all of the kids had a great time making their candles. Leah was professional and patient with the kids, but her organization of the stages of the process was really what made it work so well.
Everyone walked away with their own personal candle and most of the kids received additional items. All in all she left us and the other parents very impressed.”
